Epic’s Design Lead, Eric Williamson, took to Reddit this morning to update the community on upcoming changes in the v7.40 patch. The post was made to the developer-supported /r/FortniteBR subreddit and was linked by the official Fortnite twitter account shortly after.
The X4-Stormwing airplane will no longer do any damage to structures. This is a major nerf to how planes operate, and cements their role as primarily a transportation device.
Ziplines will now require a prompt to use, preventing the automatic use of a zipline whenver a player is in it’s immediate vicinity. Another change, and it’s a major one, is that ziplines now grant fall-damage immunity. Ziplines have been clunky to use since their implementation, and even with the changes made in v7.30 there was still a lot to be desired.
Hand Cannon’s Nerfed
The party is over boys, and we knew it was coming. The Hand Cannon’s damage to structures has been reduced down to 100 from 150. This means that the infamous Deagle can no longer one-shot wood walls. This is a major nerf to the Deagle, and it’s stock will fall significantly after v7.40 drops.
Turbo Build Delay Reduced
The delay when turbo building has been reduced from 0.15s to 0.05s. This is a significant decrease, and should allow for more interesting plays and saves from players in the future.
Rocket Launcher Nerfed
The rocket launcher is a very strong weapon. So strong that it is commonly used in CQB situations. The rocket launcher’s powerful structure damage can change the dynamics and direction of a fight instantly. Simply put, rocket launchers lower the skill gap and play too large of a role in combat. Rocket reload time has been increased from 2.52s to 3.24s, which will put a dent in their effectiveness.
Williamson also hinted that RPG’s would no longer spawn in normal chests, but would become more common in supply drops. If implemented, this would be a major blow that could have more significance than the reload time change.
Crouching N’ Editing
The ability to crouch while in edit mode has been added. This is a minor change that has been requested by the community for over a year.
