Epic announed via Twitter today that at 3PM EST it will temporarily disable the Driftin’ LTM to improve the player experience. Driftin’ is a large-team LTM, and in the past those have been most successful with respawn enabled. Driftin’ sent players back to the menu if eliminated.
Tuesday’s v7.40 Content Update added the Driftboard and accompanying LTM. Since then, players have complained that the mode’s unique format was troublesome. Driftin’ completely removed chests from the game, and players had to rely on red supply drops for loot. Some players criticized how quickly the storm moved, stating that the short time between circles didn’t allow for much action.
Team Rumble, a fan favorite, will be returning in it’s absence. Team Rumble has been a staple of Fortnite since the start of Season 7. Whenever it’s removed, we often see players on Reddit and Twitter requesting it’s return. Epic also announced that Team Rumble will now feature the Driftboard, which should make for an interesting combination.
Lastly, the Tweet stated that Driftin’ will return in a few days. As of press time we did not have an estimate outside of that. Epic has stated that the Driftboard is a limited time item, so we don’t know if it will return for Season 8. Their willingness to remove the Driftin’ LTM for several days may signal a longer stay for the item.
