A sky-high build battle from Fortnite's Battle Royale mode.

Fans of Epic Games’ ‘Fortnite’ are certainly aware of recent changes to the meta. The game is currently a turtle-fest, and top-builders have more advantage than ever. That changed today when Epic silently nerfed the turbo building delay on the first structure placed back up to 0.15 seconds. In the v7.40 update, the turbo build delay decreased all the way down to 0.05 seconds.

This decrease led to sprawling build fights. It also contributed to the current “turtle meta”. Turtling is the act of building yourself into a fort and waiting for a 3rd-party to distract your aggressor.

Epic likely reverted the change because of the performance impact it had on the game. There was a noticeable change in server performance when v7.40 released, how much of that is due to the change in turbo building remains to be seen. Console players have been struggling with performance issues as well. Epic responded to complaints regarding console performance yesterday in a post on Reddit. They stated that they were investigating and working on changes, and this change to turbo building could be the first step.

Check out the video below from Reddit user /u/Hyphine that proves the turbo building delay has been increased.
